Welcome to Science Lab 224

Let me be the first (and only) to say welcome to Science Lab 224.  With this blog I will be sharing some sucesses, failures, tips and hints, to teaching science and in particular Science Fair at the middle school (and hopefully later) High school level.  I hope you join me here and share some of your knowledge as well.

This blog has been a few months in the making.  We have just finished our middle school science fair a few weeks ago and our awards program a few days ago.  Each year brings new challenges, new success stories, more reasons to ask myself 'why do I do this?' and even more answers 'this is why I do this.'

Everything about putting on a science fair is a challenge.  To getting kids to parents to a
dministration on board to keeping you wits about you while things seem to be going haywire.  How to contact and find enough judges and how to get donations to be given as awards. (see inset picture for our last award show)

For this first time I hope to be taking students both middle and high school to our regional ISEF (that's Intenational Science and Engineering fair put on by Intel) and another regional fair.  I've hoped in the past, but like a hopeless romantic, I'm optimistic that this year's crew will stick with it.

So Join me here as I (We) stumble year after year in our efforts to bring science to our students.  With hope that they become critical thinkers and develop a sense of how science research is conducted and we may figure out a few tricks to put up our sleeves for later use.
